The Moose Republic, officially The Moose Third Republic, is a micronation that de facto claims much of the land in Southern Indiana. Most of the Republic's claims can be found along the Ohio River and surrounding countryside. The largest land claimant, Moose City, contains a great amount of acreage and natural resources. Currently, the Moose Republic's government is occupied by the founding members.

Presently, the Moose Republic is seeking incorporation and a trademark, as well as establishing a constitution. The current Charter was signed on April 21, 2016 and was amended firstly on May 19, 2016 and again on August 11, 2016. A third amendment was passed by Congress on September 7, 2016.

In 2013, during the conflict known as the Whiteboard War between several students debating over the "animal of the day" on a local whiteboard, the Moose first appeared as the animal of the day. Several students rallied behind the keeping of the moose on the whiteboard, organizing themselves into the Defenders of the Moose. These early rebels would go on to constitute Republican government today.

The rebels in support of the Moose adopted a flag similar to the current; it was inverted and all red. They also declared a small, barren, desert soil terrarium as their homeland. This terrarium is occupied by lush greenery today.

The early Mooslandics would eventually win the Whiteboard War after a year of conflict in 2014. This would throw the Defenders of the Moose into turmoil, as the provisional organization now had no purpose. Several prominent members would develop and sign a charter for the First Republic in early January of 2015, thus ending the infighting and officially establishing the Moose Republic.

The early Moose Republic would initially struggle, as membership was still limited to the four founders and the first charter was mostly dysfunctional. With no economy and little growth, the new Chancellor Yeager and then-President Hoffman along with Vice-President Smith and Supreme Admiral Adye would begin to expand the Republic's borders and interests, effectively running the country as an oligarchy. It should also be noted that the First Republic began to see rapid growth a few months after its foundation in March when several prominent members and allies in the Whiteboard War were formally inducted. They would be appointed to positions of power shortly after.

In January 2016, just after the first Moosependence Day celebrations, the founders met to discuss the revision of the original charter. Originally thought to be a few amendments to it, these discussions would eventually develop into a full rewrite of government. The Moose Second Republic was born after the new charter's signing. Unfortunately, though the new charter defined government's role with greater clarity, it in practice only made the Republic less stable than the first charter. The charter was rewritten again in April of the same year, creating the Moose Third Republic, which stands to this day.

Amendments to the Third Charter

The three amendments to the third charter detail creations of new government offices and a total rewrite of how Congress operates and is elected.

The first amendment created an official Department of Admissions and Applications, streamlining the old citizenship process and eliminated bias. The original process required a simple majority vote by all members of the Republic, but no more than one of the big four (Chancellor, President, Prime Minister, and Supreme Admiral) could vote no. The new Department made it much easier for an applicant to be approved and inducted.

Following this, and a small constitutional crisis, the second amendment was written to completely rework the Congressional system. Parliament and the Senate now had official roles and duties, and the Senate was now an appointed position rather than elected. This also coincided with then President Hoffman and then Vice-President Smith moving to Prime Minister and President, respectively.

The third charter was written later on to officially create the Moose Republic Space Program. Though never approved by any member of the Senate or Parliament (Congress in general), Chancellor Yeager signed it anyhow, citing Article 1-a-i of the charter, which gave him the power to do so.

The land the Moose Republic claims to control is, as defined in Moose Law, Federal Territory that the Moose Republic shares with the United States, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Moose Provinces, however, are normally a distance away from the main claim. These include, but are not limited to, the Cities of Bloomington, West Lafayette, and Terre Haute. The Moose Republic also maintains an embassy in, with de jure control of, the City of Surry Hills, New South Wales, Australia.

The Succession War, or The Two Weeks' War

On February 3, 2017, Prime Minister Hoffman and Vice-Chancellor Mossberger established the Hoffman Empire, with the Emperor being Hoffman himself. Mossberger subsequently became the Chancellor of the illegitimate state. The Moose High Government immediately charged them with treason, and since found guilty, they were banished from the Republic "forever." Around this time an Parliament met for an emergency session and elected then Representative Tysia Buchanan as the next Prime Minister. Yeager is still to appoint a new Vice-Chancellor. Talks with the leaders of the Empire began immediately after, yet quickly vaporized when war was declared.

When the Hoffman Empire declared war over a land dispute surrounding the area near the Chancelloric Residence, the Moose Republic mobilized troops under Supreme Admiral Adye and easily occupied any lands claimed by the Empire. Within two weeks, the War was over and the Hoffman Empire was no more; it had collapsed under the turmoil of occupation.

Approximately two months after Mossberger's banishment his charges were dropped and he was readmitted to Citizenship status. Hoffman remains banished.

January 9 - Moosependence Day - Mooslandics celebrate the signing of the first charter on January 9 each year with large parties and sometimes fireworks displays.

September 23 - National Purple Moose Day - Similar to Mardi Gras, Mooslandics have a time to celebrate wildly without a reason. The flag is usally changed to all purple for Purple Moose Week, Which is the full week Purple Moose Day resides in.

December 17 - National Syrup Day - Mooslandics enjoy a nice plate of Pancakes with Maple syrup for free at most restaurants.

The Moose Republic has declared its currency to be the "Mooslandic Credit" (MSC), which it deems to be at parity with the U.S. dollar. There is a slight difference though in that only 10 bits make 1 credit, compared to 100 cents making 1 dollar.

Though no physical coins or bills have been produced, numerous designs have been proposed and plans are set in place for their production. There will be 1, 2, and 5 bit and credit coins, along with 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, and 1,000 credit bills. Since there are no physical credits as of yet, the USD is substituted.
