The kingdom of Tortamland/ˈtɜrr.təm.lænd-/, colloquially referred to as Tortamland and often mistaken as the Queendom of Tortomland, is a self-declared micronation{{|Claims to be soverigern state.}} located in southeastern Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded on 22 September 2024, by Daemon Lee, who currently serves as [Prime Minister and continues to play a central role in shaping its political and diplomatic direction. Tortamland identifies as a constitutional monarchy, with HM Lumi I as the reigning monarch and symbolic head of state. Despite its lack of formal recognition by any member of the United Nations or other internationally established states, Tortamland maintains its own internal governance, legal structure, national symbols, and foreign relations. The micronation is governed through a parliamentary system, with the Loaforian Parliament serving as the legislative body responsible for lawmaking and oversight, which is bicameral, split into the House of Dukes as the upper house and the Senate as the lower house. Tortamland is also an active member of several intermicronational organizations, including the Koptar Union, the American Confederation of Allied States, the Union Against Micronational War, and Micronations United. Etymology

In Article II1 of the Constitution, it states:

" Article II1. The name, Tortamland, shall mean not only “loafland” in Latin, but a symbol of our people. It shan't mean racism, sexism, or hatred. It shall mean love, peace, equality, and more."

The name Queendom of Tortamland originates from both linguistic and historical roots. The term Tortamland comes from a Latin-based construction, with "torta" meaning round or circular, often associated with a loaf (called loaf in some slang) or disk shape, and "land" signifying a territory. Therefore, Tortamland roughly translates to "Land of the Round Shape" or "Loafland". The term Queendom is derived from the country’s leadership under Queen Lumi. The use of "Queendom" reflects the nation’s governance under a female ruler, distinguishing it from traditional kingdoms. Queen Lumi’s leadership has been central to the development of the Queendom, and the title emphasizes the nation's political and cultural structure.

History

Prehistory

The earliest discernible human presence in the region now known as the Queendom of Tortamland can be traced to the gradual expansion of the Lenape people into this territory. The Lenape, an Algonquian-speaking tribal government and nation, traditionally inhabited a broad area encompassing much of the northeastern woodlands, including modern-day New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, and southern New York. Over an extended period, various bands of the Lenape began to incorporate the land within what would become Tortamland into their seasonal rounds, engaging in activities such as hunting, fishing, and gathering. These practices were closely tied to the rhythms of the natural environment, with groups moving between established sites to take advantage of seasonal resources.

Socially, the Lenape organized themselves around extended kinship networks and clan affiliations, which influenced their patterns of settlement, resource use, and political organization. The region’s forests, waterways, and fertile land provided resources that shaped daily life and cultural practices. The broader regional context supports the conclusion that Lenape cultural traditions and subsistence strategies began to take root here during this early period. This foundational phase set the stage for later developments in human activity and settlement, forming the earliest known cultural layer in Tortamland’s history.

European colonization introduced profound changes to the region’s demographic, cultural, and political landscape. Initially claimed by Dutch explorers during the early seventeenth century, the territory was later incorporated into British colonial holdings following shifts in imperial control. Throughout this period, the land that would become Tortamland experienced sporadic settlement, primarily by European colonists seeking to exploit its natural resources and strategic location. The colonial era was marked by complex interactions between Indiegenous populations and European settlers, ranging from trade and cooperation to conflict and displacement.

After, the American Revolutionary War began, resulting in the creation of the United States. Despite colonial influence, much of the area remained sparsely populated and predominantly rural well into the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Bamboo Forest, a significant ecological feature, was established only in the late twentieth century, reflecting changing land use priorities and aesthetic considerations rather than early settlement patterns. These centuries of relative quietude and modest development preserved much of the natural environment that would later become central to the identity and political ambitions of the Queendom of Tortamland.

Beginnings Era

During the winter of 2023, Adi Xhezo, an Albanian-American youth, undertook an expedition into the Bamboo Forest, a location that would gain considerable importance due to its strategic and symbolic value. There, Xhezo uncovered evidence of a previously unknown lost civilization . This group had initiated the construction of what has been described as a bamboo fort, an architectural endeavor reflecting early social organization and defensive considerations. Despite this discovery, limited information is available regarding the culture, governance, or eventual fate of this civilization.

This absence created a power vacuum within the region, facilitating the arrival and settlement of new groups who sought to capitalize on the available territory and resources. This transition period marked a significant shift in the geography of the area.

Classical Era

By the spring of 2024, the previously established lost civilization had disappeared from the region, leaving a leadership vacuum. This absence allowed new political entities to emerge as various groups sought to fill the void. The first of these was the Kingdom of the Log, founded by an individual named Jacob. This monarchy represented an early effort to establish governance and order in the unsettled area. Shortly after, a young girl named Meara established the Kingdom of Meara. However, tensions quickly developed between Meara’s kingdom and Adi Xhezo, a local figure who opposed her authoritarianism style of rule. The resulting conflict destabilized the Kingdom of Meara, leading to its eventual collapse. During this same period, another individual named Oliver founded Chaos City. Though initially active, Chaos City eventually became defunct. Meanwhile, Meara claimed Calm City as part of her domain. Following the fall of both the Kingdom of the Log and the Kingdom of Meara, Adi Xhezo went on to establish the Republic of Goofy Gooberville, which became the sole surviving political entity in the region. For a time, the area fell into a state of anarchy and fragmentation. This period of disorder continued until Adi Xhezo met Daemon Lee. Lee’s involvement was key to stabilizing the region and led to the formation of the United Federation of Big Old Bunny. This federation brought together various factions and laid the foundation for the modern Queendom of Tortamland. During the early stages of this transition, Max Fromme was selected as the federation’s first citizen. The new micronation also adopted its first flag and constitution, marking important milestones in its establishment and governance.

Lonely Era

On 23 September 2024, merely one day following the official formation of the Queendom of Tortamland, the micronation took a significant step in defining its emerging national identity by adopting the first draft of its official flag. This early flag draft represented more than just a symbol; it embodied the aspirations and unity of the newly formed political entity. The design process involved consultation among the founding members and citizens, with an emphasis on incorporating elements reflective of Tortamland’s unique heritage, geography, and cultural values. The adoption of this flag served as a unifying emblem intended to foster a sense of belonging and legitimacy both within the micronation and in its interactions with neighboring entities.

Around the same period, the Queendom faced immediate diplomatic challenges, particularly regarding territorial claims and boundaries with the neighboring Republic of Goofy Gooberville. To address these issues, representatives from both parties convened to negotiate what would become known as the Treaty of the Land. The treaty aimed to resolve longstanding territorial disputes that had arisen due to overlapping claims and ambiguous borders established during the earlier fragmented political period. Through this agreement, Tortamland and Gooberville delineated clearer boundaries, reducing the risk of future conflict and laying the groundwork for more peaceful coexistence. The Treaty of the Land was seen as a crucial diplomatic achievement, signaling Tortamland’s commitment to resolving disputes through negotiation and establishing itself as a serious political actor in the region.

Later in 2024, following these foundational developments, Tortamland held its first election, an important milestone in the transition from a provisional federation to an organized political entity with defined leadership structures. Daemon Lee emerged as the victor, winning the election and thereby marking a significant shift in the political leadership of the Queendom of Tortamland. Lee’s election represented both continuity and change; while he had been instrumental in the earlier federation formation, his official leadership role now placed him at the forefront of Tortamland’s governance and future direction. Under Lee’s administration, efforts to stabilize the nation, develop institutions, and engage with regional partners intensified, reflecting a move towards greater political maturity and state-building.

Winter Era

In the months following the initial establishment of the Queendom of Tortamland, the regional political landscape continued to evolve rapidly with the emergence of new entities and alliances. One of the most significant developments during this period was the creation of the Kingdom of Olandia, a neighboring micronation that quickly asserted itself as a powerful and controversial force in the area. Olandia’s goverment structure was characterized by a totalitarian regime, which sharply contrasted with the more democratic and federative principles espoused by Tortamland and its allies.

As Olandia’s totalitarian government expanded its influence, Tortamland aligned itself with the Republic of Goofy Gooberville, forming a coalition in opposition to Olandia’s authoritarian policies and territorial ambitions. This alliance marked Tortamland’s first major involvement in regional conflict, known historically as the War of Olandia. The conflict was defined by military engagements, diplomatic negotiations, and competing claims to sovereignty and control over disputed territories.

In an attempt to bring a formal resolution to the hostilities, all leader from Tortamland, Gooberville, and Olandia negotiated and signed the Trilateral Treaty. This agreement aimed to establish the Republic of Olandia as a recognized political entity with defined borders and governance structures intended to prevent further conflict. However, the treaty’s provisions were short-lived; violations and disagreements among the parties led to its breakdown, reigniting tensions and sparking renewed conflict throughout the region. The collapse of the Trilateral Treaty underscored the fragility of peace agreements in a context marked by deep political divisions and competing territorial ambitions.

By January 2025, in response to the continuing instability and the rising influence of Olandia, the Fromme Dynasty was established within Tortamland. This dynastic rule emerged as a political consolidation aimed at strengthening internal governance and projecting authority in the face of external threats. The Fromme Dynasty represented both a continuation of Tortamland’s state-building efforts and a strategic maneuver to counterbalance Olandia’s regional power.

The Era of Darkness

The Era of Darkness began during the Trilateral Crisis, when the General Assembly banned all micronational activity in the school. This led to the United Federation of Big Old Bunny signing a treaty relinquishing its territory in the school and relocating to land under the Prime Minister’s control. A discussion followed between various nations on whether to "seize nations," but the idea was ultimately rejected. Shortly after, a war broke out involving the ARFD, which ended quickly. Gooberville experienced a loss of hope but managed to regain stability. Max returned to the UFBOB, taking the role of Intermicronational Head of Economy. The UFBOB was then compelled to sign the Treaty of Territorial Movement, allowing other nations to relocate it. Around the same time, Olandia entered a permanent state of stagnation, although conflict persisted elsewhere. A revolution began and ended quickly.

In response to the ban, Gooberville proposed the idea of creating embassies, leading to the establishment of the ARFD Embassy. The UFBOB allied with Slowjamastan, and the Treetopian Federation was renamed the Assembly of Koptarians.

Subera: Revenge

Prime Minister Daemon I identified a certain person as responsible for the original ban, which caused significant anger and marked the beginning of a phase known as Subera: The Revenge Era. A war against a certain person began, an the United Federation declared lethal war on them.|Martial law was declared, placing temporary control under the military. The Bamboo Hub was created during this period. rebel faction known as Old Francis was formed, led by opposition figures. Toward the end of the period, the Council for Discussion of Nation-States was created, and the United Federation of Big Old Bunny officially joined.

Resurgence Era

On 24 January 2025, the longstanding ban on micronations was officially lifted, signaling a new chapter for the micronational community in the Bamboo Forest. Shortly thereafter, the state of Olandia ceased to exist, marking a significant territorial and political shift. The restoration of peace was formally declared following this event.

Economic developments were notable within the Koptar Union, which reported improvements in its intermicronational economic standing. Efforts to document and publicize micronational affairs advanced with the initiation of a MicroWiki page. Meanwhile, the United Federation of Big Old Bunny established a diplomatic alliance with the Republic of Berlandia, a micronation located in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. The formation of the Ortizian Dynasty by Issac Ortiz marked another political development, with the new dynasty joining the Koptar Union. Public outreach efforts included the creation of an official Facebook page.

Environmental challenges emerged with the occurrence of the Mini Southern California Wildfires, which was when a huge bonfire erupted in the micronation. Concurrently, the Prime Minister of the United Federation of Big Old Bunny contemplated and later executed an incursion into a neighboring property situated within American territory. This operation resulted in the establishment of a partly controlled zone, which was subsequently transferred to the Bambooze Federation. Around this time, the Invasion of Schlaf commenced, further intensifying regional conflicts.

The United Federation of Big Old Bunny expanded its international affiliations by joining both the Global Micronational and United Micronations organizations. However, tensions escalated with the Armed Republic of the Fromme Dynasty, which declared ambitions to become the most militaristic country.

Following this declaration, the Fromme Dynasty adopted a communist ideology and consolidated control over its neighborhood. Both the governments of Gooberville and Loaforia classified the Fromme Dynasty as expansionist.

Union Era

In early February, the Malcolmian Federation was established by Malcolm and joined the Koptar Union, further shifting the balance of micronational alliances. Plans for a political union between Gooberville and the United Federation of Big Old Bunny were proposed in response to the growing threat from the Fromme Dynasty. This prospective entity was to be named the Union of Gooberville-Loaforia. After, the union broke, and Loaforia was recognized as the scientific designation for the region holding the United Federation of Big Old Bunny. As pressures mounted, the Fromme Dynasty collapsed, attributing its downfall to economic difficulties and political turmoil.

Continuation of the Resurgence Era

Subsequent negotiations between the Prime Minister of the United Federation of Big Old Bunny and the heir of Gooberville resulted in an agreement whereby Gooberville would assume control over former Fromme Dynasty territories once the union dissolved. The dissolution of the union marked the continuation of the Resurgence Era. Following the union's breakdown, new micronational initiatives emerged. Brandon founded Rivandia and introduced the "riv" as its official currency. Max announced plans for the brand new United Stink-Shark Republic, which later adopted pacifist environmentalism as its ideological foundation. The United Federation of Big Old Bunny also shifted its ideological stance toward Bobist Pacifist Environmentalism. The signing of the Bamboo Pact formalized the role of the Council Discussion of Nation States, which took on a role akin to NATO in dictating international law and treaty enforcement. Despite assurances from the individual previously involved in the Olandia conflict that the micronation would not be reestablished, skepticism persisted within the Koptar Union. A neutral zone comprising several provinces was created; however, existing regulations remained in effect, and land sales were prohibited. During this period, a ritual expressing hostility toward Olandia was conducted within the United Federation of Big Old Bunny. Additionally, a new territorial map was developed, establishing two new provinces: the Territory of Cosmicia and the Desolated Territory of Tornadoland. The latter became so depopulated and neglected that it descended into anarchy, though it was granted its first official coat of arms. Speculation arose about Trevor founding a new micronation, and he eventually established the Democrapublic of New Israel, notable for being the first micronation founded on a religious basis, specifically Judaism. The Province of Lommyville was created as a “state within a state,” functioning similarly to an autonomous country inside another.

The United Federation of Big Old Bunny further expanded its alliances by joining with the Free Nation of New Athens. The Faz Union was later formed, which led to a declaration of war by the United Federation of Big Old Bunny against this new entity. Although the leader of the Faz Union dismissed the conflict as illegitimate, the Prime Minister likened the war to "Australia declaring war on birds." Cultural developments then included the creation of an engraved national anthem and flag. The Outdoor Club was reopened, allowing for increased political activity. Slowjamastan joined the Koptar Union, and a search for new land continued. The United Federation of Big Old Bunny underwent an ideological shift toward environmentalist democratic socialism. Administrative changes involved the adjustment of provincial boundaries and the scheduling of a new election on 20 May, following a previous election on 20 March that lacked candidates. Multiple ministries were established, including the Ministry of Truth, with plans to create additional ministries for Agriculture, Transportation, and Foreign Affairs. An unofficial tariff was imposed on the United States for metal and steel imports, regarding President Trump's trade war. The concept of a microcontinent, unofficially named Loafistria, was introduced, along with the unofficial establishment of the Protectorate of North Flopsonia as a puppet state. The rise of new political parties was noted. The government of Loaforia considered a formal name change to the Kingdom of Tortamland, due to multiple unrelated entities online sharing the Loaforia name. This process commenced with an official rebranding of the government to the Queendom of Tortamland, a name roughly meaning “loafland.”

Mourning Era

The period known as the Mourning Era began with the removal of Big Old Bunny from office on 22 April 2025, a major historical event. Despite his removal, symbols associated with Big Old Bunny, such as flags, were retained for historical purposes. This removal was primarily driven by opposition from members of the General Assembly, a dictatorial leadership body. As a result, Lumi became the de facto leader of Tortamland{ and was unofficially recognized as queen. A national mourning week was declared to mark the removal of Big Old Bunny. A parliamentary bill was introduced proposing the abolition of the General Assembly due to its role in ousting Big Old Bunny.

Discussions between the heir of Gooberville and the Prime Minister led to a conference concerning Project Mutatio. The national currency was changed to the “pyrk.” Project Mutatio was completed, including the official name change to the Queendom of Tortamland. Considerations were made to update the flag, coat of arms, and official seal. A follow-up initiative, Project Mutatio 2.0 Design Variant, was officially proposed and scheduled to take place within the next two years.

Innovation Era

Tortamland’s political situation during this time remained unstable, with tensions escalating into open conflict against a particular rival whose identity and motivations are still debated. The disagreement stemmed from long-standing disputes over territory and political authority that had not been resolved through earlier negotiations. As the conflict intensified, the government declared martial law to regain control and maintain order across the Queendom. This move allowed authorities to enforce stricter security measures and limit certain freedoms in order to manage the unrest.

Leadership during this period was strongly centered around the royal family. Queen Lumi Lee took on a prominent role as the figurehead of the nation and key decision-maker.

Numerous treaties were signed throughout this period, both to settle disputes and to establish formal alliances with other micronations. These agreements were important for clarifying borders, defining mutual obligations, and expanding Tortamland’s network of support in the region.
