This is a database of micronations (small nations created for various purposes). This database includes several listings of micronations, micronational organizations, and micronational government-agencies. This Wikia page was founded in 2005. Before you get started, we recommend taking a look at our content disclaimer, basic rules of editing and, if you're creating a new page, the Nation Page Guide.

Types of Micronations:

There are several different types of micronations. The five categories in How to Start Your Own Country are listed and defined below:
  • Traditional:
By far the largest and most common group of micronations, "traditional" micronations work towards being recognized as sovereign nations by the means of exchanging ambassadors, issuing and accepting passports, seeking memberships in international organizations, minting currency, etc. These micronations almost-always make land-claims.
  • Under a Flag of Convenience:
These "micronations" are usually based upon ships and/or platforms that reside just-off the coasts of other sovereign nations. These "micronations" are usually just a part of some money-making scheme.
  • Litigated:
"Litigated" micronations utilize loopholes in macronational law to press their claims to sovereignty.
  • Vonu:
"Out of sight, out of mind," "Vonu" micronations establish themselves in a remote area, far from macronational authority.
  • Models:
The second-most common type of micronation, "Model"-micronations, or model-countries, are project-nations designed to resemble most of the aspects of real country, without actually seeking sovereignty. This is generally the definition of an "online nation."
